All I Ever Wanted to Know About Guitar I Learned from YouTube
A word for beginning guitar players...
Hi all.
Over the past couple of months I’ve had to learn some relatively difficult electric guitar parts– difficult for a hack like me, that is! To make matters worse, I don’t read music. My guess is there’s probably a few others out there like me. In the past, I’d just do my best to figure the parts out by ear. I could get close, but not spot on. Enter youtube. There’s quite a bit of garbage on youtube but one positive outcome is that it has become a great way for worship leaders and worship musicians to share resources.
Case in point: Lincoln Brewster’s “Everlasting God” (especially the solo) ain’t easy. But check it out: here’s a link to a slow version of the solo that’s easy to follow/learn if you’re just learning to play. On the right of your screen you’ll see links to other related videos. There are beginners like us on there looking for help and pros playing it perfectly and everything in between. Pretty cool huh?
Do some surfing on youtube use use the search bar there on the top. Punch in “how to play Let God Arise on guitar” and just see what you get. You can learn all kinds of parts from modern worship tunes, you can learn how Hillsong runs their effects, you can learn how Daniel Carson from Chris Tomlin’s band makes his delay sound like that…and so on and so forth.
When it comes to serving the body and serving our King, let’s give it our all and use every resource available! Hope this helps ya!

Lucas,
Man brohter, you can belt out some tunes and we love the 11:10 just for the worship. I doubt you can classify yourself as a beginning guitar player though. I have seen and heard you play.
Keep up the good work.
In Christ,
Lloyd
Thanks, Lloyd! And I’ll do my best to keep it up!

Lucas, this is great to know! My 9-year-old walks around the house with his guitar lately begging for lessons. I’m going to send him to You Tube instead! Mary :)
